Summer destination: The ornament of Northern Sporades, Skiathos
We took the ferry boat from the port of Volos to spend a beautiful weekend on the enchanting island of the Aegean which is one of the busiest summer destinations.
The port of Skiathos, very beautiful and picturesque with its small green cape, Bourtzi and the chapel of Agios Nikolaos that stands out gracefully. As we approach it we can see airport and the airplanes flying above which is an attracting phenomenon since it is very close to Skiathos main town.
The main street of Skiathos is Papadiamantis street, named after one of the most important Greek writers, Alexandros Papadiamantis. The road connects one end of the island to the Ring Road, which would lead us to an incredible set of enchanting landscapes and golden beaches.
Taking a stroll in the country, we find some of the local taverns, souvlaki shops and restaurants and then we went up to reach the central square of the Three Hierarchs Church where we took a break to enjoy a nice coffee and a cool cocktail at the most famous tourist cafes of the island.
While we were walking on the coastal side we were invited from the boats-owners who make daily sailing tours to the “hidden” inaccessible beaches of the island as well as to the small islands around. Although the guided tour will take from 10am to 4pm, visiting the white sandy beach of Lalaria with crystal clear blue waters and the rest of the beaches will definitely be the highlights of your trip. You shouldn’t miss that experience…
The city buses, starting from the primary school of Skiathos, just minutes from the port, continuously transport people to and from the tourist beaches of the island. With 20 stops to beaches, you will find it hard to find which one you like best! One of the most popular options is on the last bus stop, the beach of “Koukounaries” and the intermediate stops at “Vromolimnos”, “St. Paraskevi”, “St. Helen” beaches.
We did not miss the opportunity and rented through Rentacar.net.gr a very nice summer car for our morning dives in the wonderful beaches and also to enjoy our dinner at the exquisite restaurants of the ring road without worrying about time. It is really worth renting a car, because not only did we enjoy the panoramic view of Skiathos but also because we saw the beautiful chapels, the lake and the habitats in Koukounaries, the non-tourist beach of Xanemos… We also had coffee at the beautiful hotels in the mountains, swam in the hotel pool and watched a crimson sunset … a fairytale trip!
