Cream pie (bougatsa) with almonds
Easy and delicious

Sometimes a light variation on a favorite traditional sweet pie is enough to further enhance its flavor.

So Efi put almond slices and cinnamon in the cream, which she really likes, and they raised the taste even more. She split the sheets (filla) in half and made two different pastries because she was sure that one would not be enough for coffee with her friends. Another time in Germany she also put in a Kozani saffron that gave it a more exotic note. It was wonderful with almonds and she made the same on in Mykonos, with Mrs. Kalliopi.

The recipe is yours.

Cream pie (bougatsa) with almonds

Steps

1
Done

FOR THE CREAM

We put the milk and sugar in a pot and whisk until it is warm. We add the salt, vanillas and both the semolinas slowly and whisk until the cream boils and thickens.

2
Done

Once it thickens, we remove it from the heat, add the butter and whisk to melt it well. We sprinkle with cinnamon and add the sliced almonds and whisk again.

3
Done

We allow the cream to cool for a while.
We butter 2 shallow pie pans and repeat the process for the second one.
We cut the sheets in half.

4
Done

We lay the 9 sheets in such a way so that there are enough left over.

5
Done

We sprinkle in between the sheets with the melted butter and pour the cold cream creating a thin layer, straightening it with a rubber spatula.

6
Done

We cover it first with the left over sheets and cover with the remaining buttered sheets.

7
Done
25-30 minutes

We bake the cream pie (bougatsa) in a preheated oven at 200° C for 25-30 minutes, until the sheet is golden.

8
Done

We let it rest for a while, cut into large pieces and sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
