Feta cheese PDO wrapped in filo (sheet) with honey and sesame

Dazzling flavor with Greek identity

The top Greek cheese, famous abroad and sought after, is definitely the feta cheese made from goat’s and sheep’s milk and is PDO. It is common in various parts of Greece to decorate salads, oily dishes with quality feta cheese and make it saganaki, wrapped in a crust sheet or kadaifi sheet, so that it does not melt, in the pan or in the oven.

A harmonious combination is both honey and sesame or black cumin.

In the beautiful Galaxidi, the naval town, we enjoyed it in the famous tavern of “Bebeli”

Steps

1
Done

We cut the feta cheese into 2 pieces, weighing 100 gr. each and at least 1 cm thick.

2
Done

We spread the 2 sheets of crust on our kitchen counter.

3
Done

We put a piece of cheese in the middle of each sheet. We wrap it like an envelope and set it aside.

4
Done

We add the honey and 2 tbsp. water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, while stirring.

5
Done

We heat the olive oil and fry the envelope until the leaves start to turn brown and turn them on both sides with tweezers.

6
Done

We remove the pieces from the heat and place them on absorbent paper to remove most of the olive oil.

7
Done

We put on a plate and pour the honey over them and sprinkle with plenty of sesame seeds.

8
Done
20 minutes

If we don't want to fry them we can put them in a pan with absorbent paper and bake them in a preheated oven for 20 minutes.

9
Done

We serve on a platter in the middle.
