Glühwein, the aromatic wine of Christmas

An exciting Christmas wine

Mulled wine is the favourite wine of North Europeans and they enjoy it on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.Glühwein, το αρωματικό κρασί των Χριστουγέννων It is known as Glühwein, the bright wine or glogg or mulled wine, hot wine. We can taste it in all open marketplaces and ski resorts and it has undoubtedly stolen our hearts.

Even in Greece, especially in the northern  Greece, it  has become a sweet habit and its aroma sends us travelling…

It is said that the mulled wine has its roots back in the Roman era and it was even called wine with spices. Of course it is obvious that it was a unique privilege of the aristocrats and the rich since the spices needed were very expensive …

My aunt Ria, who lived in Vienna, and who is originally from Germany, has taught me how to make it and it has been my favourite since .. it travels me to snowy towns with nice company and lots of laughter. Just like a musical magic carpet that takes us away.

Glühwein, το αρωματικό κρασί των ΧριστουγέννωνEvery German and Austrian family has its own recipe which is as strongly sealed… as the wine’s strong taste.
